Abstract
The Sundarbans region, a unique deltaic landscape in West Bengal, faces persistent socio-economic disparities due to its geographical constraints, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to essential services. Despite its ecological significance, the region struggles with uneven development, affecting livelihoods, healthcare, and education. This study applies Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to identify the most influential factors driving disparities and constructs a Disparity Index using methods such as the Theil Index and Coefficient of Variation (CV). The analysis reveals that several blocks remain underdeveloped, highlighting gaps in healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. To address these inequalities, the study emphasizes the need for targeted policy interventions, integrating government schemes with localized development strategies. The results provide a comprehensive spatial understanding of socio-economic imbalances in the Sundarbans and offer insights for policy formulation aimed at equitable growth.
